Plant 'em deep!

Tomato Plant

When planting tomato plants, pinch off the stems and leaves on the lower half of the plant. Bury the plant, stem and all, up to the first set of leaves (see picture). Water well at ground level, using a soaker hose or by slowly pouring water gently around the base of the plant. The partially buried stem will grow roots in 2 to 3 days, which will provide the plant with a bigger root system and strong foundation.
